GALA HELPERS NEEDED URGENTLY!!!

Today at 10:00 we met up with our buddy class to buddy read. 

It's a lovely sunny day, so some of us sat outside!

We love listening to picture books! 

Our buddies are year 1 and 2. 

Science News!

 

 In week 3 we shared Science News. Some of the things we heard about were atoms, chemical reactions, static electricity and tesla coils! We saw videos, a microscope, coke and mentos reacting, great hair dos thanks to static electricity and looked at cool websites (such as http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/). 

Last day of term 3 - buddy class

On the last day of term 2 we did a technology challenge with our Buddy Class. We worked together in groups to make a hat that would stay on when we were skipping.

 

We had newspaper, tape and stickers to make our hat and could decorate it. We had 30 minutes to complete the challenge!

Privilege Afternoon!

On Monday Room 5 a Privilege. For privilege we had "Electronics Day". We got to bring in and use iPads, PSPs and iPods and many more. We earn the privilege by spelling the word PRVILEGE on whiteboard. We get a letter when we have earned 10 sparkles! We get sparkles around our star when we are caught being awesome. Like when we show respect, sit on the mat nicely, work together, work quietly, say nice things to each other, keep going when things are hard... 
It was really nice spending time together and playing together. Room 5 Rocks!!!

Country News

This week we are sharing news about a country of our choice. Some of us are sharing about a country we come from, or where our parents come from, or a country we have visited. We have heard facts and information, seen flags and photos, heard some key words from the language and heard information about populations.

Looking at the flags... Do you know what country they are talking about??

Ms Cleland shared about one of her favourite countries she has visited... Portugal!

Our final hockey skills session

 Practising our balancing and bouncing skills! This helps with hand-eye coordination.

This game is called "King of the Square". The aim of the game is to knock balls out and be the last person in the square with their ball.

We have really enjoyed the four hockey sessions. Thank you to the coach and Mrs Whiteman and Mrs Bloomfield for organising it!

R5 and R6 Doodling Art Display

On Monday Rooms Five and Six were learning to do doodle art. Some people were using paints and some people were using crayons and dyes. All of the children in rooms five and six each got a funny pice of paper and got to do what ever we want but we could only do one shape. If you want to learn more about doodle art you try and find it in a book or google doodle art. We did the doodling art to decorate the display area in our shared cloakroom. Come and check it out!

I hope you have all had happy holidays! We had a great first term in Room 5 and I'm looking forward to seeing Room 5's happy faces on Monday.

Earth Hour

On the 22nd of March we made lanterns with our buddy class Room 14 to celebrate Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a world wide event and more about it is here http://www.earthhour.org/. The official Earth Hour event happened on the 23rd of March. 

We talked about the difference turning off the lights for an hour makes. You will notice our lights and technology are off in the pictures!
